Actress Alicia Silverstone is an outspoken ‘Green’ advocate, a longtime vegan, but she a takes ‘Recycling’ to a whole new level….Today she posted photos and video of her feeding her son like a mamma bird would feed it’s babies, by chewing the food and then transferring it to his mouth.
As posted on her blog: ”I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!” -Alicia Silverstone
What do you think? Is this sanitary? Are there benefits to this method? Would you do this with your babies? Is it common for a mom to chew up her babies food?
Joy, Bergin Co-founder of Hot Moms Cluba and Hollywood Hot Moms has her own thoughts!!!
Ok, this is wrong on so many levels! First, we are NOT birds, NOT birds Alicia!!!! Second, the bacteria in mommies mouth should stay in mommies mouth. Third, what the HECK are you teaching your child???? Talk about bad table manners! Her son is at an age where he needs to be learning how to eat and baby, this aint it! He needs to learn to not only only eat from a fork or a spoon but also not to grab things off other peoples plates let alone other peoples mouths!! and Lastly, just YUCK!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What the heck is she thinking??? How embarrassing!

Better than letting him eat fake food, I guess.

Although I have to be honest and say I was alarmed by watching this, I see how happy they both are. He is not being harmed and I trust she like everyone else will do a wonderful job raising her son with only the best of intentions. What works for one family doesn’t work for another. It doesn’t mean it is wrong. I’m sure there is worse to be happening and its great to raise question but focus on your own way of family life.

i knew that’s what was going to happen before i started reading the article. no big deal, i used to chew up food for my son to eat all the time. what’s the difference of popping a grape in your mouth to “clean” it and giving that to your kid?

I wouldn’t do that either, Chrystal.

there are health reasons as to why that is not the cleanest way to give it to your child. water works wonders. not judging at all just commenting. It is one thing to do it casually but another to do it all the time. just curious why you needed to chew it and not cut it up? or smash it?

Two words. Holy. Shit.

That is so nasty! She is insane!!

Why? I don’t get it? Plus, isn’t this unsanitary and terrible for oral health?

Germs, germs, germs!!!
March 28, 2012 at 7:57 pm
Ummm…ugh! While I totally respect that to each their own, I see no point in her recording and sharing this. Why do we need to know that?
And, yes, it’s not saanitary to do that. It’s not even recommended that moms clean the paci with their mouth because babies immune systems are not ready for our germs!

Oh! This is strange!
I did see a picture of her breastfeeding while she was walking around wearing the ergo baby carrier- I did this ALL THE TIME- so she is still cool in my book

Is this some trend I’m not aware of? I personally think it’s gross and while I’ll do most anything for my child I’m not sure I understand the benefit of “bird feeding” your toddler. This has Freud’s Oedipus Complex all over it.

Uhhhh, not my thing!
March 28, 2012 at 9:43 pm
I’ll skip the video, because the description is plenty for me! No. Just no.
March 29, 2012 at 10:21 am
Ew. Like everyone said, to each her own, but that is just plain gross
